Laura Hillenbrand This is her amazing biography of Seabiscuit the race horse. It also includes Louis Zamperini, a WWII downed airman who recounts his story.Unbroken” is written in HillenbrandHis unsurpassed style mixes international events with personal anecdotes about his family and fellow airmen.

Zamperini had already overcome serious obstacles before the war to become one of most efficient milers in track- and area history. In the 1936 Olympics, Zamperini was in Berlin with Jesse Owens.-Known American Olympians Unbroken Audiobook Free. After the war, he became a bombardier, flying B-24s in the Pacific Cinema. Louie and two of his coworkers survived the plane’s crash in remote Pacific. They drifted for hundreds of miles and remained there for more than 47 days until being picked up by a Japanese ship. Over the course of those weeks, they suffered unbearable hardships. Louie and 2 coworkers lost their lives aboard the liferaft. They were also repeatedly attacked by sharks and bombarded by Japanese aircrafts.

After Louis and Russell Allen Phillips, his pilot, were “saved”, a more difficult journey began. Both men were sent to prison in a series Japanese POW camps. It is heartbreaking to read the brilliant summaries of camp issues and the brutal cruelty of many of the guards. Louie’s and his fellow detainees were subject to a horrific level of violence. It is hard to believe that Louie was able to make it to the end and to live a productive life. This is testimony to Louie’s unbreakable will and spirit.

Louie’s post is well-researched by the writer.-There are many causes of war, including alcoholism, craze and PTSD. The touching and informative account of Zamperini’s encounter with Billy Graham is moving. It was the occasion that Louie could finally come to peace with his hatred for Mutsuhiro Watanabe (the Bird). Louie was eventually freed from the haunting nightmares and his need for revenge.

As I was reading this book, one of my buddies noticed the book In my hand, as well as said: book It changed my life! Louie Zamperini’s life story, with all its trials and tribulations, is truly inspiring. I am a starving visitor. I’ve been reviewing since I was a small child. I enjoy history and love to read it. This book This was the best article I’ve ever read on WWII. Laura Hillenbrand Stephen Ambrose is as loved by me currently as Stephen Ambrose. My grandfather spent many years in Europe during WWII. My mommy recounts how her dad satisfied her for the first times after he returned from war. She lost all her memories of him when she was just a toddler. Unfortunately, the information on PTSD was not available during that time. He tried his best but the war left him with severe injuries that would affect all his children as well as grandchildren over the years. This book It has brought me great despair, which all men have experienced, but has also healed my injury. He didn’t hate us all; he was just trying to solve a problem that he couldn’t share with us. Wonderful publication. It is well written. Although I haven’t done any evening analysis for years, this book has allowed me to experience the rare satisfaction of losing myself in a tale. I can happily say that my moms, dads (I am 51), were members of this generation to which we all owe an immeasurable amount. My father, a young Marine at the outbreak of World War II (one of my pet peeves was seeing “Marine”, spelled with a lowercase letter “m”) signed up for the USMC shortly after the war ended. He fought the Japanese on the Pacific islands, as many others in the US military did. The good news is that he was able to make it home securely and also went on to be a distinguished leader in the USA Marine Corps. Unfortunately, he died when I was just 17 years old (he was a very young 59), and I regret not speaking with him about his battle experiences. I am a serious student of history for the past 25-years. Be aware that if you have any kind of past participants or former members of the US Armed Force in your home or circle, it is important to LISTEN TO THEM AND GET THEIR EXPERIENCES. I was young, foolish, and my chance is gone.
